Introducing "Science Kaani" with Rajshree Bandodkar

I'm sure all of us remember the stories from our childhood like "The hare and the tortoise" or "The thirsty crow". But can you recall science concepts that we learnt during our school days, like the Archimedes principle or the Newton's second law of motion? It's difficult, isn't it? But, What if I tell you there is an easy way to remember the scientific concepts, in the form of stories. It is exactly what Rajshree Bandodkar Karapurkar, a science populariser from Goa has been doing all these years. She has authored around 6 books so far and one of them "Chitkulya Chinkichen Vishal Vishwa" had bagged Sahitya Academy award. She had also made a couple of animation films, and one of them, Bondla Zoo had came under Top 10 among 400 entries in the International Film festival in 2010. Here are a few excerpts from her interview. ================================================ Saptha :  It’s interesting to know about teaching science in the form o...

A list of buckets you can be proud of

What Have You Done With Your Life? One of the good things about life is that you are in complete control of it. Society can test and enable you- which you have to go the other way, live a real-life, and serve the- goals of the world. In fact, we are all masters of our own ships. Think about your life uncovered canvas and your choices of a paintbrush. The choices you make build on your story in some way. When you reach the end of your journey, what do you want your paint to look like? If you follow the path that our culture plans for most people to follow, it will look like pictures of everyone else.   Make Your Own Story Doing strange things with your life is like dipping your paintbrush in strong color. You will then give your paint a good choice of handle and look back at it with pride. There are thousands of things out there that you can add to your bucket list to make your life story more interesting. The list below lists a few different places for you to go, things to see, and...

Should College Athletes Be Compensated?

With the final BCS Bowl between Florida State and Auburn taking center stage, it is interesting to note that most of the players will be playing professionally shortly. This will be the last BCS Championship as college football prepares to enter the new age with next year's College Football Playoffs. This will not only feature the National Competitor who won the trophy at the stadium through a series of elimination games but- will also donate millions of dollars to the vast NCAA fund. There is little doubt that the NCAA is in the business of making money through college games and college players. To earn money in a competitive environment, a university or college needs talented, dedicated, experienced staff, and a head coach who knows how to win. Trees high! For the last four weeks in college basketball, CBS charged $ 700,000 for 30-second advertising space. The gross network for men and women for the last four games is estimated at $ 6 billion annually. Sports conferences receiv...

Is Marketing Compelling Values Outside Culture?

A Whole New World The level at which human society is developing has largely dropped jaws when you consider the current state- of technology we have created. For thousands of years, we have had ancient technology, independent culture, and have known little about the places beyond our influence. Now it takes about three seconds for you to pull out an iPhone and take a child you don’t even know on Facebook from scratch. It is crazy to think about the impact our developments have had on global unity. A few years ago, Europeans spent their free time wondering if the country was flat while the Native Americans lived a very different life in the Atlantic. New forms of technology and the birth of the Internet have amazingly united us. Americanization of Other Countries: Good or Bad? America is one of the biggest giants of this expansion. Compared with other countries in terms of age, it looks like a baby. Compared to other numbers like full of money and military might, however, it looks...

Hagia Sophia

Istanbul is a secret city where Asia meets Europe. Inside the city, there is its special place, which is  Hagia Sophia , which means Wisdom. This magnificent construction graced the city's surface for some 1,500 years. Hagia Sophia in Istanbul Hagia Sophia is a religious building in Istanbul, Turkey, considered one of the most important architectural sites from the Eastern Roman Empire, also known as Byzantine. It is a very- popular building for a large dome and for having remains. The building served as an Orthodox Christian church until 1453. In 1453, it was transformed into a mosque when Istanbul- was added to the Ottoman Empire. In 1935, it was finally- turned into a museum, which continues to this day. One notable structure is the Hagia Sophia, or Church of Holy Wisdom. Like many modern Byzantine churches, the Hagia Sophia is organized in the center, with the dome serving as its focal point. a) Plan of the gallery (upper half; b) Plan of the ground floor (lower half).
